"Even though it is the same as the emergency PPKM, there are several different regulations in the fourth level of the PPKM. The new regulations should be disseminated to the public to ensure their compliance, primarily on differing regulations from the previous one," DPR RI member Saleh Partaonan Daulay of the National Mandate Party (PAN) stated here on Tuesday.
The decision to extend the PPKM indicates the current COVID-19 infection rate is yet to be brought under control, and any action to relax the PPKM may worsen the current situation, he observed.
The decision to extend the PPKM must be respected, however, there is a need to elaborate on several points of the new PPKM regulations that have been modified, he added.
"For example, the current regulation allows restaurants to serve customers dining on the premises for up to 3 people for 20 minutes maximum. The previous regulation dictated restaurants to serve only takeaway and delivery orders," the PAN politician noted.
While the new regulations would be advantageous for all sides if strictly implemented, it would be a difficult task for the authorities to oversee their execution, he pointed out.
"Police and municipal police officers are insufficient to inspect every operating restaurant," Daulay said.
He urged the state authorities to ensure that restaurant owners adhere to the new regulations, as the government is relying on their compliance, adding that the inspection of each operating restaurant would not be possible.
"I also noted other different clauses in the new PPKM regulations (which may confuse the public), therefore, the new regulations must be properly publicized and announced (by the authorities)," he advised.
