Jakarta (ANTARA) - Home Affairs Minister Muhammad Tito Karnavian has called on business players and the financially privileged to work hand-in-hand in assisting people who have been hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic.

In a press statement issued here on Tuesday, he expressed the hope that though the business world has also been affected by the pandemic, those who are financially capable would come forward to help the public.

The budget for such an assistance can be allotted through corporate social responsibility (CSR) programs, he suggested.

“In this good opportunity, to all business players or those who have financial privilege, now is the time for us to ignite the mutual spirit to help the affected communities,” Karnavian remarked.

Some regions have distributed assistance to communities hit hard by the pandemic through the National Islamic Alms Management Agency (Baznas), he pointed out adding, companies can run CSR programs on similar lines.

Moreover, the accountability regulation on Baznas, or CSR budget utilization, is considered to be not as strict as budget utilization from the Regional Budget (APBD), the minister noted.

“The accountability system is not as stringent as APBD, so it can be utilized to assist the public,” he said.

Karnavian also assured that assistance from regional administration would be quickly disbursed to people in need.

He said that he had paid a visit to regions to ensure that social assistance is being properly distributed to the public and review the APBD realization amid the pandemic.
