Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Cooperatives and Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) has targeted the Proud of Indonesian Products Movement to become a principle that is internalized by all Indonesians.

Special Staff of the Ministry’s Law, Cooperatives and Financing Supervision Agus Santoso said that this internalization can make Indonesian products have a competitive power nationally and internationally.

"We see how people in other countries are so proud of the product made in their home countries. So we Indonesian people should also choose Indonesian-made products as often as we can," Santoso said in an online seminar on Friday.

Santoso also hopes that the Proud of Indonesian Products Movement will encourage Indonesians to take an active part in raising the prosperity of local Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), and assist the nation's economic recovery.

He added that it would be unfortunate if a number of local products were created, but Indonesians would not use them.

Without the people to use those products, the market would not be able to expand, due to the lack of feedback needed to raise the quality of products.

"That is why, I advise especially members of younger generation to buy local products," Santoso said.

The Proud of Indonesian Products Movement is a government's effort to encourage citizens to choose local products made by Indonesian MSMEs to fulfill their daily needs.

The movement is being carried out because more MSMEs are being created and in order to stimulate the nation’s oost-COVID-19 economic recovery.

The movement aims to expand the market by adding some 30 million MSMEs by 2024 and ensure that they are capable of conducting online sales.
