The government is striving to create herd immunity as soon as possible. Hence, vaccines are increasingly available to the public.
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Industry Ministry has continued to speed up vaccination for industry workers to curb the COVID-19 transmission, with the number of workers in the sector has amounted at around seven million workers in Java Island alone.

“We believe vaccination has an important role to realize our goal of ‘Strong Industry, Advanced Indonesia’," Industry Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita said in his statement when visited vaccination site at President University, Jababeka Industrial Estate, Bekasi District, West Java on Friday.

The ministry has coordinated with the Health Ministry to hold the vaccination program on July 28 to 31, 2021 for 5,000 industrial workers, he informed.

The vaccines administered to the workers are Sinovac’s CoronaVac which is provided by the government. Vaccination for industrial employees has become one of the government’s priorities as the sector has contributed an average of 18 percent to the national Gross Domestic Product (GDP) as well as 75 percent of Indonesia's total exports, he added.

Currently vaccination program is focused on agglomeration areas since they contain many industrial companies and estate. However, it does not mean that other areas are ignored, he noted.

“The government is striving to create herd immunity as soon as possible. Hence, vaccines are increasingly available to the public," said Kartasasmita.

Vaccination program for industrial sector is in accordance with the ‘Gotong Royong’ (mutual cooperation) Vaccine Program under the coordination of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KADIN), he informed.

"We have coordinated with KADIN chief by sharing the vaccine recipients’ data to facilitate the vaccination process," he added.
