Jakarta (ANTARA) - Over 8.5 million residents of Jakarta received their first shots of the COVID-19 vaccine as of Monday, thereby constituting 95.2 percent of the targeted 8.94 million residents.

Meanwhile, the number of fully vaccinated residents stood at 3.53 million, Chief of the Disease Prevention and Control Section at the Jakarta City Health Office Dwi Oktavia noted in Jakarta on Monday.

Oktavia remarked that 136,445 residents had received their first shots, while 116,682 residents had been administered their second jabs on Monday.

On a national scale, some 25,212,024 Indonesians received their second COVID-19 vaccine dose as of Monday, according to the COVID-19 Response Task Force.

The number of fully vaccinated Indonesians rose by 434,701 from the day before.

Meanwhile, the number of Indonesians receiving their first COVID-19 vaccine jab increased by 132,375 to reach 50,630,315.

Overall, Indonesia is seeking to vaccinate 208,265,720 citizens to build herd immunity against the coronavirus under the nationwide vaccination drive rolled out on January 13, 2021.

Oktavia reminded the vaccinated residents that inoculation only reduced the risk of contracting the COVID-19 infection.

To this end, Oktavia cautioned of a likelihood of vaccinated residents being exposed to the coronavirus and transmitting the disease to other people if they failed to abide by health protocols.

The health office also reported that the number of active cases or patients receiving treatment and conducting self-isolation in Jakarta had decreased by 286, thereby taking the tally to 10,356 as of Monday.

With the addition of 727 fresh cases, the capital city’s COVID-19 caseload rose to 832,226 since the onset of the pandemic in March 2020.

Of the total, 809,087 people recovered from COVID-19, while 12,783 others succumbed to the infection.

With 809,087 people recovering from the infection, the capital city’s recovery rate currently stands at 97.2 percent.
