Thank you, all people of East Java that stayed disciplined in following health protocols and have worked hard to administer (COVID-19) vaccines during the PPKM period.
Surabaya, E Java (ANTARA) - East Java Governor Khofifah Indar Parawansa claimed that extending public activity restrictions (PPKM) had proven effective in reducing the COVID-19 transmission rate in the province.

"Thank you, all people of East Java that stayed disciplined in following health protocols and have worked hard to administer (COVID-19) vaccines during the PPKM period," Parawansa noted here on Tuesday.

The effectiveness of the extended PPKM is reflected in the province's COVID-19 positivity rate and response to the handling of COVID-19 cases in accordance with data from the Health Ministry, the governor pointed out.

According to data, the number of districts and cities under level 4 PPKM in East Java declined to 18, from 30 earlier.

The 18 districts and cities in East Java that are still under level 4 PPKM comprised the districts of Tulungagung, Sidoarjo, Madiun, Gresik,Trenggalek, Nganjuk, Malang, Lumajang, Bangkalan, Lamongan and Mojokerto as well as the cities of Surabaya, Mojokerto, Malang, Madiun, Kediri, Blitar, and Batu.

Meanwhile, the number of districts and cities under level 3 PPKM increased to 19, from eight earlier.

The 19 districts and cities are the districts of Pasuruan, Pamekasan, Pacitan, Kediri, Sumenep, Probolinggo, Tuban, Jember, Bojonegoro, Jombang, Ponorogo, Blitar, Banyuwangi, Situbondo, Ngawi, Bondowoso, and Magetan, and the cities of Probolinggo and Pasuruan.

"In fact, East Java has one district under level 2 PPKM. The district is Sampang," she noted.

The governor urged the public to demonstrate that East Java was capable of addressing such challenges and maintaining the current achievements.

"We must continue to intensify our efforts to curb the spread of COVID-19. Do not give up. Otherwise, the level will go down," Parawansa affirmed.

The Indonesian government has extended PPKM for regions outside Java and Bali for a two-week period, from Aug 10 to Aug 23.

Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto stated at a virtual press conference in Jakarta on Monday that level 4 PPKM will be enforced in 45 districts and cities outside Java and Bali. Other 320 districts and cities will implement PPKM level 3, while 39 districts and cities will enforce PPKM level 2.

For regions under level 3 PPKM, face-to-face teaching and learning activities are permitted at a maximum of 50-percent capacity.

Export-oriented industries and their supporting sectors can continue to operate at 100-percent capacity. However, if there is a COVID-19 industrial cluster, the area will be closed for five days.
