We should stay alert and vigilant during the PPKM implementation by always applying strict health protocolsJakarta (ANTARA) - House of Representatives' member Nurhadi reminded the public to not be careless during the public activity restrictions (PPKM) policy adjustments in connection with the decreasing number of COVID-19 cases.
Some several policy adjustments made by the government are extending the implementation of level 4, 3, and 2 restrictions on community activities in Java and Bali from August 10 to 16, 2021.
The second one aims to provide concessions for several sectors in the restriction level 4 areas in Java-Bali, including the opening of malls or shopping centers, places of worship, and the essential sector of the export base.
"We should stay alert and vigilant during the PPKM implementation by always applying strict health protocols," Nurhadi emphasized.
According to the legislator, public awareness to comply with health protocols would necessitate the showcasing of role models from community leaders, religious leaders, and politicians as well.
Nurhadi expects religious leaders and politicians to set an example to prevent violation of policies that would hinder efforts to control the spread of COVID-19 in the country.
"During the implementation of PPKM, the number of positive cases did decrease. However, we should stay alert," he remarked.
Nurhadi emphasized that the restriction raises public awareness of the importance of health protocols. On the other hand, the government could focus on taking curative steps for COVID-19 positive patients, both self-isolating and being hospitalized, he noted.
He assessed that the government's move had a good impact on increasing the number of recoveries and lowering the bed occupancy rate at hospitals.
He also encouraged testing and tracing to be consistent in numbers.
The Indonesian government had conducted a trial of opening malls or shopping centers in areas with level 4 PPKM by being heedful to health protocols.
The regulation applies to several cities with Level 4 restriction, such as in the cities of Jakarta, Bandung, Surabaya, and Semarang, with a capacity of 25 percent over the next week, with adherence to strict health protocols.
Vaccinated people can enter malls and are required to use the PeduliLindungi application, while children under the age of 12 and those over 70 years of age are not allowed to enter malls or shopping centers.
However, if there is a spike in cases in the zone, the government will again tighten curbs.
