Jakarta (ANTARA) - Governor of Jakarta Anies Baswedan has said that the COVID-19 positivity rate in Jakarta, based on PCR testing, has fallen below 10 percent to move closer to the standard set by the World Health Organization.

"Alhamdulillah (Thank God), our COVID-19 positivity rate is decreasing day by day, getting closer to the ideal rate. It has been below 10 percent since last week. Now, we are moving towards the safe threshold set by WHO, which is 5 percent," he informed here on Tuesday.

The governor said that the positivity rate has successfully been reduced due to the efforts made by all levels of society.

"This is the result of all of our work because the positivity rate describes the situation in the community," he remarked.

Sounding a note of caution, the governor asked residents not to become careless as the battle with COVID-19 is not over yet.

Even though the cases are currently sloping, residents must remain disciplined and obey the health protocols since COVID-19 cases can jump at any time if people are careless in implementing the protocols, he said.

In addition, Baswedan also invited those who have not been vaccinated to immediately visit vaccination centers the government has prepared.

"To all residents who have not been vaccinated, let's get vaccinated immediately. By getting vaccinated, we are protecting ourselves and our families," he said.

The first case of COVID-19 in Indonesia was confirmed in March 2020. According to data provided by the Jakarta government on the website corona.jakarta.go.id, as of August 17, 2021, as many as 841,610 residents have tested positive for COVID-19, 819,620 residents have recovered, and 13,074 residents have succumbed to the virus in the capital city.
