Without quality human resources, existing infrastructure and research budget will not be utilized optimally to manifest a leap of progress in Indonesian research and innovation.
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Acting Head of the Indonesian Institute of Sciences (LIPI) Agus Haryono revealed that his team had worked to create a research- and innovation-friendly ecosystem with the 'SIAP' (READY) strategy to produce competitive products.

"In revamping the research and innovation ecosystem, the SIAP transformation pattern being implemented at LIPI encompasses quality human resources, advanced research infrastructure, effective research budget, and regulations of the innovation ecosystem," Haryono stated during a Research and Innovation Webinar for Red and White here on Wednesday.

Furthermore, Haryono highlighted that if the transformation to improve SIAP went well, the research and innovation ecosystem can proceed to create innovations that can be beneficial for the community.

According to Haryono, human resources are the most crucial component in the research- and innovation-friendly ecosystem, accounting for 75 percent; while the research infrastructure, 15 percent; and the research budget, 0 percent.

Hence, he echoed LIPI’s commitment to improving the quality of human resources in the institution's environment with top HR programs, the Indonesian diaspora, and Talent Management.

"Why is HR the most imminent? This is since we believe that the finest quality human resources, as the largest component, can level up the ecosystem," he remarked.

Moreover, he remarked that to expand access and increase opportunities for collaboration in research, LIPI conducts international collaboration and initiates research infrastructure programs.

LIPI also strengthens efficient technological innovations and cooperation opportunities with the industrial sector, he noted.

Moreover, Indonesia is looking for representatives at the national and international levels that will put the spotlight on development of the country's research and innovation to encourage collaboration, he noted.

Assistant Professor of Chemical and Environmental Engineering at the University of Nottingham, UK, affiliated with Virginia Tech, the United States, Bagus Muljadi, also noted that foreign education highly values researchers and scientists possessing interdisciplinary knowledge and experience, as they have usually dealt with several real problems.
