The satellite is expected to push equitable internet access for all of Indonesia that can drive the development of various economic centers nationwide.
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Secretary of the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs (Sesmenko) Susiwjijono Moegiarson is sanguine that the first national multi-function satellite, the Indonesian Republic Satellite (Satria), would encourage the development of new economic centers across Indonesia.

"The satellite is expected to push equitable internet access for all of Indonesia that can drive the development of various economic centers nationwide," Moegiarson remarked during an online event observed here on Wednesday.

The ministry’s secretary remarked that digital infrastructure had become increasingly important amid the COVID-19 pandemic to sustain various daily activities.

Moegiarson noted that Project Satria aligned with the government's target to boost the quality of public services through connectivity mapping across Indonesia, especially in remote regions.

"This strategic process involving Satria is expected to connect all public services, such as education services, health facilities, administration, and security across Indonesia's regions through the internet," he expounded.

The secretary remarked that Satria can have a positive impact on the economy through improvement in the telecommunication network, small and medium enterprises’ transactional center's online link, as well as various e-office processes.

Moegiarson strongly believes that all related ministries and institutions should bolster coordination and integration, particularly for addressing various technical and operational issues.

"Thus, everything can be synergized and can fully support operations of the Satria satellite," Moegiarson noted.

The Satria Satellite Project began since 2017, and the cooperation agreement was inked in May 2019.

The satellite was planned to be launched in the second quarter of 2023 and will become commercially operational by November 17, 2023.
