By boosting productivity, we can shift the economic structure, from lower to higher productivity
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The National Development Planning Ministry/National Development Planning Agency's (Bappenas) Economic Deputy Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti believes that economic transformation is the key to bolstering productivity in Indonesia.

"By boosting productivity, we can shift the economic structure, from lower to higher productivity," Widyasanti stated during the Global and Indonesia's Economic Outlook online seminar here on Friday.

To this end, she opined that all parties across different sectors and regions should unify efforts and jointly commit to bring about economic transformation.

Indonesia's post-COVID-19 economic transformation requires collective commitment since unified efforts were necessary to drive post-pandemic economic recovery, according to her.

Moreover, she remarked that economic transformation can help Indonesia's economic growth trajectory to reach the pre-COVID-19 level.

The deputy believes it can also recover to a better trajectory as that before the COVID-19 pandemic, so that the nation can witness its golden period by 2045.

Widyasanti expressed concern that if the nation's economy failed to return to the pre-pandemic level, then it would stall its efforts to break free from the middle income trap before 2045.

Hence, it is important for all parties in the nation to stand side-by-side in driving acceleration of economic growth without conducting activities as usual.

Echoing Widyasanti's opinion, Bank Indonesia's Deputy Governor Dody Budi Waluyo also stated that economic transformation was a crucial foundation for achieving healthy economic growth.

"Economic recovery and transformation should be pursued together as part of synergistic efforts to accelerate activities in the real sector and to redirect economic performance to achieve its potential growth rate," he stated at the opening of the Indonesian Economists Association (BI-ISEI) virtual public discussion for Eastern Indonesia (KTI).
