Jakarta (ANTARA) - House of Representatives (DPR) Speaker Puan Maharani has welcomed the downgrade of public activity restriction (PPKM) levels in several regions as it will help relax the economic restrictions.

The regions that have moved from PPKM level 4 to PPKM level 3 would help improve the economy, which has been affected by the strict implementation of the PPKM, she observed.

"This is a good momentum that must be responded to carefully," she said here on Tuesday.

The lowering of the PPKM level in the regions would trigger community mobility because, with level 3 and level 2 PPKM, there are relaxations in activity restrictions, she explained.

The relaxations include easing of trade activities, the permission to operate at 100-percent capacity for export-oriented industries and their supporting or non-essential businesses, and the reopening of malls, with less strict rules, she noted.

"The level of the PPKM which has been decreased in several regions will open up opportunities to move the community's economy and the economy in various sectors which will have an impact on regional and national economic growth," she remarked.

However, she urged the public to remain vigilant and emphasized that remaining disciplined in implementing the health protocols remains the key to suppressing the transmission of COVID-19.

According to Maharani, people still need to be careful, even though the activity restrictions have begun to be relaxed for regions with level 3 PPKM.

"Always obey the health protocols and follow the government's instructions so that there will be no further increase in COVID-19 cases," she advised.

The PPKM level in four large agglomeration areas in Java and Bali islands has been recently lowered from level 4 to level 3 -- Jakarta-Bogor-Depok-Tangerang-Bekasi (Jabodetabek), Greater Bandung, Greater Surabaya, and Greater Semarang.
