Depok, West Java (ANTARA) - Economic activities have resumed in Depok city, West Java, after related authorities downgraded the level of the city's public activity restriction enforcement (PPKM) to level 3 from level 4, Mayor Mohammad Idris said on Monday.

"More economic sectors can resume their operations, yet with health protocols enforced, after the city's PPKM score improved to level 3," Idris said while inspecting restaurants on Margonda Street in Depok.

While restaurants have been allowed to operate, restaurant operators must remain consistent in enforcing the health protocols on their premises, he added.

The central government is encouraging the local authorities to intensify efforts to resume economic activities within their regions, he noted. Reopening of restaurants, besides triggering economic recovery in the city, will have the potential to increase the original regional revenues, he added.

"After we successfully improved our PPKM score to level 3, establishments barred to open during the enforcement of level 4 PPKM are allowed to operate again. Reopened premises should not neglect their responsibility to enforce the health protocols and to limit their establishment's capacity by 50 per cent," Mayor Idris urged.

The situation in hospitals in Depok has improved significantly, he informed adding, two floors assigned for COVID-19 patients recently at Depok Municipal Hospital are barely occupied, with only several patients remaining under treatment at the facility.

"Health workers in Depok can finally rest longer after our hospitals have no COVID-19 patients, and we should not become complacent by neglecting the health protocols lest our health workers would be overwhelmed again," Idris said.

Meanwhile, Depok Public Order Agency (Satpol PP) Head Lienda Ratnaunrdianny informed that restaurants in the city have been allowed to operate at limited capacity.

"Mayor Idris has examined the health protocol enforcement -- including the 30-minutes dining time-limit -- in restaurants by himself. As we observed, restaurants have properly enforced the PPKM regulation and health protocols," Ratnanurdianny stated.
