Jakarta (ANTARA) - Bank Indonesia (BI) encourages digitization of payment systems through the use of QRIS in the "Proud of made in Indonesian Products" (Gernas BBI) movement and Proud to Travel in Indonesia campaign (BWI) in Sulawesi Island.

"Let us continue to use QRIS. Until July 31, 2021, MSMEs and tourism service providers that used QRIS had reached 459,346 merchants in Sulawesi or increased by 114 percent (yoy)," BI Governor Perry Warjiyo stated at the online launch of BBI and BWI here on Thursday.

Warjiyo remarked that an increase in the use of Quick Response Code Indonesian Standard (QRIS) was inseparable from the synergy among BI, tourists, banks, especially the top brand BNI (Bank Negara Indonesia), local government, and Sulawesi's National Craft Council.

Warjiyo noted that BI had always supported Gernas BBI and BWI as a form of real synergy for the revival of MSMEs. He also invited the entire community to continue to harbor a sense of pride in products made by Indonesian MSMEs.

"BI remains fully committed to supporting the success of Gernas BBI and BWI every month," he remarked.

"The success is realized through strong interactions between ministries and local governments in increasing the capacity of MSMEs to push for increased demand and connect MSMEs with the digital finance and economy ecosystem," Warjiyo expounded.

Warjiyo noted that BI had consolidated the collaboration commitment with the signing of a cooperation agreement between its representative office in the country and Sulawesi's National Craft Council.

The central bank additionally offers an e-catalog as a forum to showcase products of BI-assisted MSMEs and regional government-assisted MSMEs.

Moreover, BI continues to synergize with various ministries to five BI foreign representative offices for developing and boosting the marketing of MSME products.
