Pangkalpinang, Bangka Belitung (ANTARA) - Bangka Belitung Islands COVID-19 Task Force confirmed that an additional 15 patients died of COVID-19, thereby bringing the total death tally to 1,211.

"Most of the COVID-19 patients that died had suffered from congenital diseases, such as heart (issues), lungs (issues), diabetes, hypertension, and others," Secretary of the Bangka Belitung Islands COVID-19 Task Force Mikron Antariksa stated here on Monday.

According to the latest data on Sunday (Aug 29) evening, among the 15 patients that died, four each were from Bangka District and Belitung; two each from West Belitung, West Bangka, and Central Bangka; and one from South Bangka.

Moreover, 230 others contracted COVID-19, thereby bringing the total count of infected people to 46,600. Some 50 were from Bangka, 36 from Pangkalpinang, 45 from Central Bangka, 17 from South Bangka, 33 from West Bangka, 32 from Belitung, and 17 from East Belitung.

The number of COVID-19 patients that recovered also increased, pegged at 41,182 people after an additional 319 patients recovered. Some 80 were from Pangkalpinang, 68 from Bangka, 50 from Bangka Tengah, 24 from West Bangka, 47 from Belitung, and 50 from East Belitung.

"Thank God, in the past week, more patients have recovered in comparison to the number of new COVID-19 cases. Thus, cases of transmission and deaths from this corona virus can be suppressed," he remarked.

To suppress the death count, his administration has ensured the availability of medical oxygen stocks by deploying an Oxygen Task Force, expediting the distribution of free medications and supplements for infected patients, and conducting more tracing and testing through their Tracing and Tracking Task Force.

Antariksa urged people to get involved in the efforts to protect themselves, their families, and their communities by following health protocols through a disciplined approach. To further bolster the efforts, mass vaccinations will also be conducted by the Vaccination Task Force.
