Jakarta (ANTARA) - State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) Minister Erick Thohir ensured that SOEs can become an ecosystem for improving the economy of creative workers to open more opportunities for the creative workforce.

"I come across many creative ideas in ARTJOG. All of them are extraordinary and able to demonstrate our strength as a nation that every individual has special ideas and artistic creativity. ARTJOG has been successful in surviving the pandemic and involving local artists. Hence, I will ensure that SOEs are ready to help and collaborate to improve the economy of the arts sector," Thohir noted in a written statement received here on Tuesday.

The minister attended the closing of the art exhibition ARTJOG in the Special Region of Yogyakarta. The contemporary art festival, exhibition, and market were organized at the Jogja National Museum from July 8 to August 31. It has been held annually since 2008.

Meanwhile, the ceaseless creativity of the young amid the pandemic has demonstrated the spirit to keep moving forward and to adapt to all conditions.

Hence, the ministry and SOEs are ready to act as catalysts as well as prepare a sustainable ecosystem to support businesses, work, and the future of creative workers to drive the sector.

According to Thohir, the creative works on display at ARTJOG demonstrated that Indonesia can become a pop culture country. Hence, the abundant potential and creativity of youngsters had to be supported by encouragement, praise, and convenience to facilitate improvement.

"It is the role of the government and SOEs to provide support in order to realize the vision of becoming a world leader in the arts and creative industry," he added.

The 2021 ARTJOG, themed "Time (to) Wonder," aims to interpret time as a problematic concept while having manifold connotations. A total of 41 artists presented their works through various mediums on the subject of time in the broad spectrum of the artists’ perception as expressed through their artistic perspectives and practices.

The Young Artist Award (YAA) also held in 2021 at ARTJOG offered opportunities for the best participating young artists under 35 years of age to gain acknowledgement and reward for their works. Bonggal Jordan Hutagalung from Yogyakarta, Nurrachmat Widyasena from Bandung, and Suvi Wahyudianto from Madura bagged the awards out of the 10 young participants at the event.
