Ambon, Maluku (ANTARA) - Statistics Indonesia's (BPS') Maluku regional office reported that the cumulative export value for the January-July 2021 period in the province declined by 8.08 percent as compared to the corresponding period in 2020.

"The cumulative export value in Maluku for the January-July 2021 period reached US$32.03 million, declining by 8.08 percent from the same period in 2020," Maluku BPS office Head Asep Riyadi stated in Ambon, Friday.

Riyadi noted that during the January-July 2021 period, the province had exported US$21.27 million worth of crude oil and non-oil commodities -- including tuna fish, live lobster, crab, and nutmeg -- valued at US$10.33 million.

"Despite the decline, the province recorded a significant 728.74-percent increase in the export volume for the January-July period this year, with the total volume recorded at 52.60 thousand tons," Riyadi remarked.

Riyadi stated that the cumulative value of Maluku's commodities exported from ports outside the region during the January-July 2021 period witnessed an increase of 3.57 percent from the corresponding period in 2020, with the total value recorded at US$9.02 million. The agency also recorded a 74.08-percent increase in the export value to reach US$1.44 million in July 2021 alone, as compared to the exports recorded a month earlier.

Riyadi noted that Maluku's exports to Vietnam declined, wherein exports recorded a 61.1-percent decline to reach US$830 thousand, while the value of exports to the US decreased by 25.49 percent to US$2.20 million.

In contrast with the exports to Vietnam and the United States, Maluku's export value to Japan for the January-July 2021 period experienced an increase of 62.99 percent to US$2.58 million as compared to the same period in 2020, he pointed out.

He noted that South Korea was the current major export partner of the province, accounting for 60.59 percent of Maluku's total exports for the January-July 2021 period valued at US$19.41 million.
