"The criteria for superior human resources must be the tagline of nationalism for millennials who will be the successors for the advancement of the Indonesian nation," Amin remarked while delivering a speech at the senate meeting of the Malang Islamic University (Unisma), which he joined virtually from his official residence in Jakarta on Monday.
The criteria for superior human resources comprise health, intelligence, high productivity, competitive spirit, love for the country, and noble character, he noted.
"Currently, the government has put the development of superior human resources as a national priority. Superior human resources are key to winning global competition," Amin said.

Members of the millennial generation, who are mostly freshman in college, are also expected to be able to realize the spirit of nationalism so that they remain guided by local wisdom in the midst of global developments, the VP said.
"All of you (millenials) are required to have the ability to compete at a global level, but your heart or identity must still be attached to the identity and character of the people of Indonesia," he added.
The VP emphasized that education is the most important factor in determining the quality of human resources and the progress of a nation. As per data from Statistics Indonesia (BPS), as of February 2021, the number of workers graduating from higher educational institutes was just 10 percent, or the equivalent of 13.3 million out of 137 million workers.
"This (education) is certainly closely correlated with the quality, productivity, and competitiveness of Indonesia," Amin said.
Therefore, he urged new Unisma students to complete their higher education on time so that they can become reliable scholars.
"I hope Unisma students will become qualified scholars who have an entrepreneurial spirit and noble characters," he remarked.
