Jakarta (ANTARA) - National Agency of Drug and Food Control (BPOM) Head Penny K. Lukito stated that health products faced tight competition in the global market amid the pandemic.

"We need to commend the export activities involving domestic products on account of the fact that competition in the global market is also getting tougher, especially for health products during this pandemic," Lukito noted during the virtual inauguration of the export-import expansion of the Pro EM-1 probiotic healthy drink concentrate product held in Malang, East Java, Thursday.

Lukito remarked that the COVID-19 pandemic had taught the entire nation that only in the presence of a healthy society can the economy and the wheels of life move, so that the people's welfare can be increased.

One indicator of achievement that can be measured is the absorption of labor and manufacturing production, so that they can manufacture products for export to several destination countries.

"The president of the Republic of Indonesia always reminds us that one of the keys to economic improvement is enhancing the performance of national exports," she pointed out.

The BPOM head highlighted several main requirements to compete in the global market that comprised products meeting the quality and competitive quality standards, having international standards, and being manufactured in good standard production facilities.

The BPOM remains committed to providing support in the form of technical assistance to business actors, especially for the development of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), which are the largest businesses in the drug and food sector.

To this end, Lukito noted that the BPOM provides an export consulting service related to regulatory information in export destination countries supported by market intelligence data from Indonesian representative offices in various countries that can be utilized.

Lukito lauded the achievements of PT Agro Mitra Elimentare (AMA), as a producer of the Pro EM-1 probiotic healthy drink, in developing its business to be able to export products to China.

The BPOM head affirmed that the exports reflected the partnership between the government and business actors in developing business competitiveness, so that Indonesia's position in the global market can be raised.
