Real athletes are those who are able to conquer themselves in order to be disciplined. You cannot be in this room if you are not disciplined.
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Governor of Jakarta, Anies Baswedan, has asked 735 Jakarta athletes who are scheduled to compete in Papua's PON National Games XX to concentrate on facing each match.

Athletes need to reduce activities that can interfere with concentration and focus on competing, he stressed while seeing off the Jakarta contingent for the PON games at the City Hall here on Wednesday.

"Please be focused on your game journey. Concentrate on that, reduce communication or activities that can disrupt your focus," the governor urged.

He also emphasized that he did not want Jakarta's great athletes to lose their competitive spirit because of activities that disturb their preparation.

"This is a moment for all of you to prove to yourself that the training yields a result (you can be proud of)," he remarked.

Baswedan said he believes that Jakarta athletes will be able to channel their hard work and training to get the best results at the prestigious sports event.

"Real athletes are those who are able to conquer themselves in order to be disciplined. You cannot be in this room if you are not disciplined," he added.

Papua's PON National Games XX will be held from October 2 to October 15, 2021.

The games will be divided into four match clusters of 37 sport branches which will take place in Jayapura city and district, Mimika District, and Merauke District.

The Jakarta contingent will join in the 37 sports branches and 67 competitions by targeting to become the popular champion in the PON National Games XX with a total of 171 gold medals, officials said.

Earlier, the XX Papua National Sports Week Organizing Committee (PB PON) had said that the security for athletes, participants, and staff will be maintained at the highest level.

The statement was delivered by the head of Division II of the committee, Roy Letlora, during a press conference here.

In addition to deploying more than nine thousand security personnel in four clusters, the committee has also prepared a special room equipped with sophisticated equipment to monitor the situation at the venues, she said.
