Jakarta (ANTARA) - The convening of Papua's 20th National Games (PON) on October 2-15 has helped stir up the enthusiasm of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in Mimika District to revive, a local government official said. .

"It sets a new hope for MSMEs actors to revive," Head of the Cooperatives and MSMEs Office of Mimika District Ida Wahyuni remarked in a written statement received here on Monday.

Furthermore, she expects the national sporting event, which is being co-hosted by the district, to open many business opportunities for the local community as the event will draw many people to the region.

She then urged local business actors to take advantage of visits – from tourists, athletes, and officials -- to market their products.

"It is a motivation for them to continue their handicraft, cuisine, and herbs production activities," Wahyuni said.

Furthermore, she revealed that her office has prepared some marketing strategies for MSME products.

All Mimika district government offices will need to provide marketing places for potential MSME actors, she informed.

"For instance, the Mimika District Fisheries Office is responsible for providing a place for processed fishery products MSMEs," she said.

In addition, some marketing spots will also be provided at Diana Mall and the Mimika District Market, she informed.

Meanwhile, another strategy is to utilize online apps to market MSMEs products so that XX Papua PON visitors can buy the items through the apps upon returning to their hometowns, Wahyuni said.

She expressed the hope that the efforts will help restore the local entrepreneurs’ economic condition, which has suffered due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

"The efforts aim to encourage MSMEs players to continue to advance and survive in the midst of the pandemic," she said.
