(Hopefully,) all parties would synergize in maximizing (the use of e-commerce for holding) PON to drive the local economy, especially Papua and more specifically, its MSMEsJakarta (ANTARA) - Papua's local MSMEs are encouraged to maximize use of e-commerce for economic development in accordance with the PON National Games scheduled in the province, Cooperatives and SMEs Ministry's Deputy for Micro Enterprises Eddy Satriya stated.
"(Hopefully,) all parties would synergize in maximizing (the use of e-commerce for holding) PON to drive the local economy, especially Papua and more specifically, its MSMEs," Satriya noted virtually, as per a press statement, here, Saturday.
Satriya revealed that despite the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, digital literacy and utilization could support economic improvement, especially the use of e-commerce that has been rising.
MSMEs are encouraged to use communication and information technology on a fairly large scale.

During a webinar on the Digitalization of MSMEs in Eastern Indonesia held in collaboration with the Ministry of Communication and Informatics and Grab Indonesia, Satriya noted that the digitalization of MSMEs in Eastern Indonesia aligns with the three main agendas of the ministry's priority programs specifically informal to formal transformation, transformation utilizing digitalization and innovation by bringing MSMEs into local, national, and global supply chains, as well as creating modern cooperatives.
Satriya further noted that the XX PON is a major event for sportspersons, various associations, and economic actors, especially in Papua. Hence, he is optimistic that the collaboration with Grab would revive the economy by encouraging digitalization.

Meanwhile, Director of East Indonesia Grab Indonesia Halim Wijaya explained that East Indonesia, especially Jayapura, was in the spotlight for its cultural, natural, and economic potential. This is especially after being appointed as the host of this year's PON National Games.
He assessed that PON presents opportunities for local MSMEs to reach a broader market through the use of technology.
"Grab also ensures to continue to be present in helping business actors to be ready to seize opportunities, including through improving the skills of MSME (players) in Jayapura," Wijaya remarked.
