I am optimistic that these national events would be able to boost the income of local businesses.Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Papua Industry, Trade, Cooperative (Perindakop); Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs); and Labor Office have engaged local craftsmen and merchants for two upcoming national sports events that the province will host.
The events are the National Sports Week (PON) XX and National Paralympic Week (Peparnas) XVI.
The PON, scheduled on October 2-15, will be co-hosted by Jayapura City along with the districts of Jayapura, Mimika, and Merauke.
Meanwhile, Peparnas will be held on November 2-15 in Jayapura city and district.
“Currently, we are listing local entrepreneurs, especially the ones managed by Papuan women, in cooperation with the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) as well as the Papuan Entrepreneurs Customary Chamber (KAPP),” Chief of Papua Perindakop, MSMEs and Labor Office Omah Laduane stated in Jayapura, Wednesday.
Laduane spoke of his administration also involving MSMEs in other areas, including Wamena and Biak. The areas are the capitals of two supporting districts, Jayawijaya and Biak Numfor respectively.
The registered entrepreneurs will receive training on how to package their products. Attractive packaging will draw customers, as participants of the events will come from all over Indonesia.
“We are also going to collaborate with the PON Committee to highlight local products. I am optimistic that these national events would be able to boost the income of local businesses,” he remarked.
The noken -- Papuan traditional braided bags -- are among the prime crafts to be promoted during the events. Meanwhile, tourists can sample culinary delicacies, such as smoked fish, locally known as "ikan asar", honey, and coffee, the office chief stated.
