Jakarta (ANTARA) - Synergy between the Indonesian Military (TNI) and National Police (Polri) has become the key to tackling all forms of challenges and threats that enter Indonesia, according to National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo.

"Solidarity and synergy between the TNI and Polri are absolutely necessary as a source of strategic strength in order to face various challenges in future that are increasingly complex," Prabowo noted in a written statement received in Jakarta, Tuesday.

One of the forms of solidity and synergy between the TNI and Polri is that the duo became the main pillars in the efforts to handle the COVID-19 pandemic that has impacted Indonesia and other countries around the world.

According to the National Police chief, the TNI and Polri synergize in controlling COVID-19, starting from the enforcement of health protocols to strengthening testing, tracing, and treatment (3T) and accelerating COVID-19 vaccination.

Participation of the TNI-Polri in expediting inoculation has placed Indonesia in the fifth place in the world in terms of vaccination achievements based on data from the Indonesian Ministry of Health.

As of October 4, 2021, some 94 million Indonesians have received the first dose of vaccination. This position exceeds the number of Japanese vaccinations by about 80 million people.

Meanwhile, Indonesia is ranked sixth in the world in terms of the number of doses used. It is recorded that Indonesia has injected 148 million doses of the COVID-19 vaccine.

"In the current pandemic situation, the TNI and Polri are among the main pillars in various efforts to control COVID-19, starting with the enforcement of health protocols to strengthening testing, tracing, and treatment (3T) and accelerating COVID-19 vaccination," he stated.

The Police chief noted that during 76 years of working in Indonesia, the TNI has always been loyal to being on the frontlines to maintain the sovereignty and integrity of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI) from all forms of threats, both from within and outside the country.

"With its professionalism, loyalty, and dedication, the Indonesian Military is always present in guarding and maintaining the defense of the territory of the Republic of Indonesia on land, sea, and air," Prabowo stated.

He expects that the TNI will become more professional, disciplined, aggressive, and humble as well as continue to guard the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia.
