It is we ourselves who can work to end the COVID-19 pandemicJakarta (ANTARA) - Vice President Ma'ruf Amin drew attention to spiritual and social factors as being the two crucial aspects to be borne in mind to exit the current crisis of the COVID-19 pandemic.
"The first is spiritual capital. We must face this global disaster with efforts and prayers, so that we are kept safe from losing hope that will weaken vigor," Amin remarked at the Indonesian Catholic Virtual Creation (KVKI) event held via video conference here on Saturday.
According to Amin, the second vital factor is social capital, which is in the form of solidarity between people to strengthen one another amid predicaments due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
"To rise from the pandemic crisis, Indonesia needs considerable collective energy in the form of empathy, caring, social solidarity, and mutual support from all communities," he stated.
Earlier, the vice president emphasized that the COVID-19 pandemic crisis in Indonesia will only end if the entire community stays disciplined in implementing health protocols and participating in vaccinations.
"It is we ourselves who can work to end the COVID-19 pandemic. If we all comply with the health protocols and (join the) vaccinations, then this pandemic is expected come to an end soon," he expounded.
According to data from the COVID-19 Task Force as of October 7, 2021, the number of people that had received the second dose of the vaccine reached about 25.8 percent, or 54,959,545 individuals, out of the total target of 208,265,720 for achieving herd immunity.
The number of people that just received the first dose reached 96,492,154.
Hence, in order to achieve herd immunity by 2021-end, the vice president has requested to accelerate vaccinations to 2.5 million jabs per day.
"If we want the vaccination process to be completed by the end of 2021, then the speed of vaccination should be increased to 2.5 million per day," he stated.
