Temu Interchange will have two underground floors and eleven upper floors that will function as an office.
Jakarta (ANTARA) - City-owned public transport company PT MRT Jakarta has started to build the Temu Interchange in Dukuh Atas, Menteng Sub-district, Central Jakarta, and is targeting to complete it by April 2023.

The building project is aimed at accommodating the integration of public transportation.

Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan inaugurated the start of Temu Interchange's construction in the ex-Blora Market here on Wednesday.

He expressed the hope that the interchange will help the community get access to transportation in terms of facilities and affordable cost.

"The city of Jakarta can be more environmentally friendly because the pollution is reduced," he remarked.

Baswedan also said he expected the facility to represent the city's future orientation so it is able to trigger urban regeneration and encourage Jakarta to align with other major cities of the world.

"This point in the Dukuh Atas area becomes the first area where we develop (a facility) with a transit-oriented concept," he informed.

Temu Interchange is one of the facilities built in the transit-oriented zone (KBT) of Dukuh Atas. The word "Temu", which means "to meet" in Indonesian, was inspired by the Dukuh Atas area that is a meeting point of many transportation modes, he noted.

"Temu Interchange will have two underground floors and eleven upper floors that will function as an office," he informed.

In addition, there will be retail and transit locations to pick up and drop off TransJakarta and online-based transportation passengers, he said. The next stage of the construction will connect the facility to Sudirman KCI Station, he added.

Earlier, President Director of MRT Jakarta William P Sabandar had said that the budget for the development of the transport hub was estimated at Rp160 billion.

State-owned construction company PT Pembangunan Perumahan (PP) is serving as the contractor for the Temu Interchange, which will span an area of 2,445 square meters.

The construction is estimated to take 14-18 months, starting October 2021.

PT MRT Jakarta, Perumda Pasar Jaya (the city-owned public utility company), PT Pembangunan Perumahan, and other stakeholders are collaborating on the construction project.
