Our commitment is to make Jakarta a climate-resilient city.
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan has targeted the capital to become a climate-resilient city through the implementation of the Regional Low Carbon Development Plan (RPRKD).

"Jakarta becomes the first province in Indonesia that has RPRKD aligned with the mandate of the 2020-2024 National Middle Term Development Plan (RPJMN)," Baswedan noted here on Friday.

In support of the plan, he issued Governor Regulation No. 90 of 2021 pertaining to RPRKD.

The RPRKD mirrors the ambitious commitment and active contribution of the Jakarta provincial administration in pursuit of the Indonesia’s National Determined Contribution (NDC), according to the governor.

RPRKD also aligns with the Paris Agreement that becomes the global agenda of climate change handling, he stated.

Jakarta has conducted holistic innovations, taken mitigatory actions, and made climate change adaptation equally, since the latest one is viewed as often being left behind.

In addition, the mainstreaming of climate change issues and regional development have become the spirit in drafting the regulation, he stated.

“Our commitment is to make Jakarta a climate-resilient city,” he highlighted.

Baswedan has targeted to reduce greenhouse emissions by 30 percent and to ambitiously slash these emissions by 50 percent in 2030 and to achieve zero emissions in 2050.

He noted that the administration was also committed to boosting the public's adaptability in facing climate disasters by decreasing the number of areas categorized as prone and high prone to climate change.

RPRKD is a comprehensive regional-level regulation that encompasses climate change actions that integrate mitigation and adaptation strategies for climate change in Jakarta, he noted.

“For the first time, through this plan, the adaptation actions for climate change are regulated in a legal product,” he remarked.
