Jakarta (ANTARA) - Chairman of the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR), Bambang Soesatyo, underscored the importance of having Pancasila as a foundation to avoid being easily swayed by the turbulence of civilization.

Soesatyo noted that when the founders were working towards establishing an independent Indonesia, they were fully aware to also include the foundation of the state that they are going to build.

"With answers that contain the meaning of life for the Indonesian nation itself which is the embodiment and personification of the values that are owned, believed, and lived by the truth by the community at all times in the history of the development and growth of the nation since birth," he stated here on Thursday.

The National Congress event, themed "Efforts to Civilize the Nation," was organized by the People's Consultative Assembly and the National Alliance at the Nusantara IV Building, Parliament Complex, Jakarta, on Thursday.

Soesatyo pointed out that the values promoted by the nation's founders encapsulate the thoughts and ideas of what Indonesians considered as a good life.

The nation's founders created values that backed up the order of social life and the nation's spiritual system that gives Indonesia its own distinctive style, character, and characteristics as compared to other communities or nations, he affirmed.

"This fact is an objective reality that is the identity of Indonesia as a nation," Soesatyo remarked.

He deemed it necessary for all state administrators to hold on to the true essence of culture, so that they can use it as a means to build the nation in order to preserve the said culture.

Soesatyo believes the national order of life could be destroyed if the loss or reduction of culture in national development were to ever occur.

He pressed for an alternative thought process and strengths to remind and showcase a more reliable development roadmap.

"The way of development that guarantees more national security, with the ability to realize the vision and mission of the country based on Pancasila as stated in the Preamble to the 1945 Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia," he further remarked.

He also affirmed that awareness played an important factor in realizing a civilization. No single civilization in this world was immune to potential vulnerabilities that could be triggered by various factors, he stressed.

The factors included inequality and political oligarchy that weaken social cohesion and encourage national disintegration and ecological degradation, reflected through the ever-thinning environmental resources due to the constantly increasing community needs.

"Third, the complexity of challenges and problems in national life and the fourth is unpredictable external factors, such as war, natural disasters, and epidemics," he affirmed.

He also highlighted that each country can maintain and build the civilization by learning from the past while also adapting and innovating for the future.

However, what is more important than all that is the willingness to build national identity and character, as a fundamental basis, so as to not be easily swayed by the turbulence of civilization.
