Dynamic debates or discussions, being rich in literacy, and applying a conducive political climate during the upcoming presidential election are also solutions
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The 2024 General Election, involving the organizer agency and the community, should present a healthy and rational political climate, Indonesian National Youth Committee (KNPI) Regional Representatives Council secretary Tri Wahyudi Otto stated.

According to Otto, a healthy political climate ahead of the 2024 elections, especially during the presidential election, can be realized by providing information in the campaign based on adequate and accurate data analysis.

"Dynamic debates or discussions, being rich in literacy, and applying a conducive political climate during the upcoming presidential election are also solutions," he noted when contacted by Antara here on Tuesday.

This is what he highlighted was inseparable from the existence of identity politics during the Jakarta Regional Head Election (Pilkada) 2017 and 2019. Otto noted that they still left trauma and wounds for the community.

Otto highlighted that it was concurrently found that a variety of identity politics issues dominated the campaign, triggering social disputes.

Hence, he stated that although identity politics was applied in major countries, such as the United States, during political campaigns, the model of political contestation in Indonesia should be studied more deeply.

"Should this contestation model be reused? Considering the culture and people of Indonesia is certainly different from that of America," he noted.

Otto also highlighted that identity politics, which accentuates the importance of similarity over diversity to gain power, can threaten Indonesian diversity.

He stressed that it should be avoided by the entire nation, especially the younger generation, by strengthening unity.

The movement was based on the commitment of one nation, one language, and one homeland, a vow made by Indonesian youth in the 1928 Youth Pledge.

"The identity of ethnic groups, religion, race, and inter-society groups is inevitable but the most authentic aspect in Indonesia," he pointed out.

Thus, he called to give serious consideration to diversity and to practice it in society, strengthened with the value of wisdom and closeness among the nation's children.

Otto added that the KNPI, as a youth organization across religions, ethnic groups, races, social groups, and others, will play an active role in building healthy national political relations, as done by the founders of Indonesia.
