Investment and intellectual property product licensing has become an important asset within the process of economic growth.
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Law and Human Rights Vice Minister Edward Omar Sharif Hiariej, during his ministry's coordination meeting at the intellectual property department, here, Tuesday, stressed on the importance of intellectual property within the international trade system.

"Investment and intellectual property product licensing has become an important asset within the process of economic growth," he affirmed.

On account of the importance of protecting intellectual property, synergy between stakeholders from the government is necessary, according to Hiariej.

The central and regional government should implement an intellectual property national strategy.

"The purpose is to make the national intellectual property system optimal in supporting national economic development," he explained.

One of the strategies is to provide support and protection to the creative economy, he highlighted.

By advancing creative economy to be the basis for intellectual property development, it could emerge as a huge potential for Indonesia to make intellectual property as the new pillar of the national economy.

To this end, citizens should be edified through improved access to information and knowledge, as well as skill and competency improvement to support the process of innovation.

Collaboration between intellectual property stakeholders, such as the regional government institutions, academicians, entrepreneurs, community, and media, will facilitate development of the creative economy.

Lastly, Hiariej expects people to improve and protect their intellectual property, so that they could develop their business through investment and licensing in knowledge and business innovation creation.

"As a result, the national creative economy sector would grow that will certainly increase the gross domestic product and provide opportunities for job creation," he elaborated.

During the meeting, the vice minister also unveiled the update to the communal intellectual property national data centre application designed to protect Indonesia's cultural legacy.

"The update to the PDN KIK will make it the only platform that presents valid data concerning information on communal intellectual property," he noted.
