Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) has won two awards for environment-friendly energy infrastructure development from Waste4Change and the Indonesian Renewable Energy Society (METI).

"Hopefully, this will be a stimulus that replicates and becomes a best practice for the management of other infrastructure, not only in the scope of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, but wider to various sectors," the ministry's head of communication, public information service, and cooperation bureau, Agung Pribadi, remarked here on Saturday.

The awards from Waste4Change are evidence of the ESDM Ministry's actions and plan for the community for implementing responsible waste management and reducing the amount of waste that ends up at the final processing site, he explained.

"We make sure to minimize internal waste disposal and utilize environment-friendly packaging to increase recycling value," he added.

In terms of energy efficiency and conservation, the Chairul Saleh Building owned by the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources has also been designed with the concept of a green and healthy building and its geometry faces north-south to allow natural lighting, Pribadi said.

In addition, the building has been designed with open ventilation, and it is surrounded by trees that serve to protect the building from direct sunlight and reduce air pollution, he informed.

"This allows the users of the building to improve productivity, well-being, and health through quality indoor air," he said.

Furthermore, he pointed out that the Chairul Saleh building has implemented the energy management program since 2016 and applied ISO 50001: 2018 concerning the energy management system.

The building operation pattern, which is based on Green Operation and Maintenance, has created a well-supported operational system by using renewable energy and building automation system (BAS) for running electrical equipment, he said.

Through these two awards, Pribadi said he hopes that it can be an inspiration for other institutions in prioritizing energy infrastructure and development that is based on the environment.
