"This is especially crucial to address cases of sexual violence in universities," Yentriyani noted in a seminar on sexual violence on Friday.
The ministerial regulation covers the prevention and handling of sexual violence in universities.
This regulation offers a ray of hope to victims to have the courage to speak up and fight for their rights taken away by the perpetrators of sexual violence in universities, she affirmed.
"It can be seen that immediately after the issuance of the policy, fellow young friends at various campuses became stronger in supporting victims to reveal the conditions of sexual violence that occurred in their environment," she stated.
Yentriyani believes that this regulation would facilitate better handling of victims of sexual violence and prevent the recurrence of similar incidents in future.
Unfortunately, the ministerial regulation has triggered some polemic among members of the public. Some parties perceive that this regulation seemingly allowed people to commit adultery in the university environment.
This policy aims to offer legal clarity whilst additionally being a measure to prevent cases of sexual violence in universities.
The momentum against sexual violence is crucial, with the main attention focused on the movement of the members of the young generation that are the future of the Indonesian nation and also the world.
"We really need to seize this opportunity and ensure that Indonesia's young generation becomes the driver for the birth of a healthy generation in future that is free from violence and patriarchal culture," she stated.
