Kendari (ANTARA) - The Southeast Sulawesi's State Intelligence Agency (BIN) has expedited the coverage of COVID-19 vaccination by targeting people in remote areas spread across six districts.

Head of the Southeast Sulawesi BIN Brigadier General Raden Toto Oktaviana noted in a written statement here on Monday, the agency was cooperating with the regional government and other related parties to deliver the vaccines in remote areas, so as to achieve the vaccination target.

"We continue to conduct the COVID-19 vaccination and our team of health workers also reaches remote areas using katinting boats (traditional boats)," he remarked.

Oktaviana revealed that the vaccinations were conducted at eight different locations in Southeast Sulawesi in order to cover all regions, especially those residing in remote areas.

"Today, there are eight points covering spots in Kolaka, Bombana, South Konawe, West Muna, Central Buton and North Buton districts," he stated.

Oktaviana revealed that initially, his administration had aimed to vaccinate one thousand people. However, they managed to deliver the vaccination to as many as 1,362 individuals.

He also urged all residents to harbor no fears and get vaccinated, as a measure to reinforce the body's immune system, thereby minimizing the risk of being infected with COVID-19. This effort is also a countermeasure to the third wave of the pandemic.

"Everyone, let us get vaccinated in order to achieve herd immunity," he emphasized.

Oktaviana also reminded people that had received the complete dose of vaccine to follow health protocols in a disciplined manner, especially by wearing masks, maintaining distance, and washing hands frequently, with the objective of stemming the spread of COVID-19 and its variants.
