Jakarta (ANTARA) - The National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) is monitoring the condition after a 7.5-magnitude earthquake struck East Nusa Tenggara, at precisely 112 km from Larantuka, with early report suggesting one resident was injured.

According to the agency's press statement here on Tuesday, BNPB's Operation Control Center (Pusdalops) monitors the post-earthquake condition across several regions' Regional Disaster Mitigation Agencies (BPBD).

According to the report until 11:28 a.m. West Indonesian Standard Time (WIB), people were fleeing East Flores on account of the earthquake.

People in Sikka, Lembata, and Manggarai in East Nusa Tenggara in addition to East Flores also felt the earthquake.

Lembata residents were initially panic stricken but have now calmed down, according to a statement by Acting Head of BNPB's Information Data and Disaster Communication Center, Abdul Muhari.

According to an early report received by BNPB, one resident in Manggarai was injured, but aid was provided by workers on the field.

The 7.5-magnitude earthquake was also felt by the people in Makassar and Selayar, South Sulawesi. According to Selayar’s BPBD, a school building was destroyed, but the agency is still surveying the affected location.

The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) had earlier detected a tsunami of seven cm in height observed in Marapokot, Nagekeo, East Nusa Tenggara, at 10:36 a.m. WIB and Reo in Manggarai at 10:39 a.m. WIB.

The BMKG also issued an early tsunami warning due to the earthquake.

At a press conference here on Tuesday noon, BMKG's Head, Dwikorita Karnawati, stated that the early tsunami warning due to the 7.4-magnitude earthquake near Larantuka was over.

However, residents are urged to remain cautious of potential aftershocks.
