"An evaluation of the companies’ compliance level with the environmental regulation also shows that the companies’ performance looks quite good even during the pandemic. The companies’ compliance level with the environmental regulation reaches 75 percent," Minister of Environment and Forestry Siti Nurbaya stated at the 2021 PROPER Environmental Award conferment event here on Tuesday.
The ministry evaluated 2,583 companies under this year’s corporate performance rating assessment program in environmental management (PROPER).
According to the assessment, as many as 47 companies are categorized as Gold PROPER, 186 companies characterized as Green PROPER, 1,670 companies are categorized as Blue PROPER, while 645 companies are considered as Red PROPER.
Nurbaya informed that 500 of the 645 companies categorized as Red PROPER are firms evaluated for the first time this year.
“None of them are categorized as Black,” she added.
Companies categorized as Blue, Green, and Gold PROPER are those that have complied with the regulation.
Meanwhile, the Red PROPER category includes companies that have made environmental management efforts but have only achieved part of the results required by the law and regulation.
PROPER Black is the lowest rank in environmental management performance assessment. Companies categorized as Black PROPER are those that have not made environmental management efforts as required, so they can likely pollute the environment and are at risk of having their business permits revoked by the government.
At the PROPER Environmental Award ceremony, Vice President Ma'ruf Amin encouraged business actors to pay attention to the condition of the surrounding environment, both in terms of the physical and social aspects.
