Bandarlampung, Lampung (ANTARA) - The first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine has been administered to 77.51 percent of the targeted recipients in Lampung, the Health Office reported here on Wednesday.

"First dose vaccination coverage in all districts and cities in Lampung has surpassed 70 percent," head of the Lampung Health Office, Reihana, said.



The first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine has been administered to 5,150,943 of the 6,645,226 targeted recipients so far, she added.



Meanwhile, 3,138,187 people have received the second shot and 29,298 health workers have been vaccinated with the booster or third dose, she informed.

Out of the 15 districts and cities in Lampung province, Metro city has the number of first dose recipients at 170,940, and Bandarlampung city at 875,285.



"The achievement of the COVID-19 vaccination percentage is more than 70 percent in the 15 districts and cities because the acceleration of the COVID-19 vaccination continues to be carried out," she affirmed.



According to Reihana, the trend of COVID-19 vaccinations started to increase starting from October 2021, with the number of recipients reaching 138,472 that month alone.

In a bid to boost immunity against COVID-19, the Indonesian government launched a nationwide vaccination program on January 13, 2021. President Joko Widodo was the first vaccine recipient under the program.



According to data provided by the Health Ministry, as of January 5, 2022, nearly 167,226,243 citizens have received their first COVID-19 jab, while 114,822,604 have been fully vaccinated against the virus.



The Ministry of Health had earlier announced that the booster or third dose of the COVID-19 vaccine will be rolled out for the public from January 12, 2022, and it will target districts and cities where vaccination coverage has reached 70 percent for the first dose and 60 percent for the second dose.
