To realize Indonesia as a maritime axis country, we need to work hand-in-hand -- the regional administrations and central government -- as well as the public.
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Vice President Ma’ruf Amin has urged regional administrations, especially in coastal and island regions, to intensify collaboration with the central government, including ministries, institutions, and all related stakeholders, to realize Indonesia's global maritime axis vision.

“To realize Indonesia as a maritime axis country, we need to work hand-in-hand -- the regional administrations and central government -- as well as the public,” Amin said in a statement here on Thursday.

Regional administrations in the coastal and island regions play a strategic role in optimizing the potential of resources and marine wealth in Indonesia, he stressed.

The strategic role can be manifested through partnership between island and coastal regional administrations along with the central government, thereby accelerating public improvement, he expounded.

“Such collaboration should be consistently continued, so it can help accelerate improvement among coastal and island communities,” he pointed out.

He noted that Manado, the capital city of North Sulawesi, is one of the regions that can boost the exports of marine products akin to tuna as well as motivate other coastal and island regions to continually innovate.

“I think that such a breakthrough can be likely emulated,” he remarked.

Hence, the vice president expressed optimism that the island and coastal regional administration association (Aspeksindo) would contribute to offering solutions to optimize Indonesia's marine potentials.

“As an organization that accommodates island and coastal regions with abundant natural resources, Aspeksindo is expected to enhance the harmonious relations between the regional administration and central government,” he remarked.
