I do not want the alms to be managed individually, as it has not showed concrete results yetJakarta (ANTARA) - State-owned Enterprises (SOEs) Minister Erick Thohir has urged state-owned enterprises to disburse zakat (alms) through the National Alms Agency (Baznas) as clearly stipulated in the law.
“I do not want the alms to be managed individually, as it has not showed concrete results yet. The zakat disbursed by Baznas can be utilized for the Muslim generation's development that remains a big challenge currently,” Thohir stated in a press release received here on Thursday.
As a country with the biggest Muslim population in the world, the government and state firms are responsible for the Indonesian Muslim generation in the near future, he added.
Hence, through alms consolidation with Baznas, Thohir is optimistic of it creating a top-notch program together for readying a professional and highly educated Muslim young generation.
The SOEs Ministry is collaborating with Baznas in realizing the zakat program among state enterprises.
Thohir, during the dissemination of information on alms management by Baznas administrators at the SOEs Ministry, called on them to disburse zakat through an official agency Baznas.
The minister’s directive aligns with Law No. 23 of 2011 and Government Regulation No. 14 of 2014 on Baznas Duty as the Fund Manager of Zakat, Infaq, and Shadaqah (ZIS) as well as Other Religious Social Funds (DSKL).
He spoke of his intent to consolidate zakat in SOEs as a major driving force to prepare the young generation to continue higher education to become the backbone of Indonesia’s future sustainability through leadership, professionalism, or business opportunities.
“This is the era of knowledge-based economy, which means economic growth achieved through human intelligence, so we must boost our human resource capability,” he stressed.
He called on the SOEs directors to stand united in supporting the zakat program in addition to forming the alms management monitoring team in state enterprises.
