This COVID-19 vaccine is not much different from existing vaccines
Jakarta (ANTARA) - An expert has asked people to participate in efforts to end the pandemic, including by vaccinating children and ensuring that vaccines successfully suppress other existing conditions.

Vaccinations have a long history and have succeeded in pushing down the rate of deadly diseases, such as polio, general chairperson of the National Pediatrician Association, Piprim Basarah Yanuarso, said at an online discussion on Saturday.

Vaccines are one of the brilliant offerings from the medical world—the world before and after their invention has been significantly different, he added.

"This COVID-19 vaccine is not much different from existing vaccines," he said.

He also asked the press to promote the COVID-19 vaccination program, including for children. The media can contribute a lot to support the vaccination program because it is impossible for medical institutions to do this alone, he added.

Yanuarso then called for collective participation to end the pandemic.

He also assured that the National Pediatrician Association has not changed its recommendations with regard to face-to-face learning. One important factor for realizing face-to-face learning is getting the full dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, he said.

He also emphasized that health protocols still need to be followed in a strict manner to prevent the transmission of COVID-19.

"We really regret that many schools had to be closed when COVID-19 cases increased again, and the community activity restrictions became Level 2; thus, it is best that we do not conduct 100-percent face-to-face learning. So, the options offered by National Pediatrician Association should indeed be considered again; maybe the hybrid option (mix of online and offline learning) is also one of the best options," he added.
