Thus, Jakarta will still be a big city, the world's economic and business center
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Jakarta government supports the relocation of the national capital and believes that the city will continue to develop even after it no longer has the status of capital, Deputy Governor Ahmad Riza Patria has said.

"Basically, we really support the national capital city transfer policy. We believe that the relocation of the capital city from Jakarta to Nusantara is a good intention of the central government, which we must appreciate and support," he remarked during a seminar here on Friday.

Patria said that Jakarta's development will continue despite the policy due to the large economic burden as well as Jakarta's position as the heart of the state's economy.

Through the continuation of development programs, Jakarta would become a leading city in the country and join the ranks of global-scale metropolitan cities such as New York and Washington D.C. in the United States, he added.

"Thus, Jakarta will still be a big city, the world's economic and business center," he remarked.

The House of Representatives approved the ratification of the National Capital City Bill into law during a plenary meeting on January 18, 2022.

Thus, the government has the legal mandate to build a new capital in East Kalimantan gradually by 2045.

However, a number of people acting on behalf of the National Axis of State Sovereignty have opposed the policy and have countered it at the Constitutional Court.
