Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan (ANTARA) - National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, here on Thursday, encouraged all regions to achieve 100-percent vaccination for realizing herd immunity.

"Regions that have not reached the target should work hard. Meanwhile, regions that have already crossed 70 percent should strive to achieve 100 percent, at least for the first dose," he remarked.

He then lauded South Kalimantan for its good vaccination coverage. For instance, for people aged 12 years and above or the general public, the coverage has reached around 80 percent for the first dose.

Meanwhile, vaccination for the elderly has stood at around 64 percent for the first administration.

However, when it comes to vaccination for children aged 6-11 years, he deemed that this should be intensified further since coverage is still at 42 percent for the first dose out of the targeted 440,853 children.

"Nationally, the first dose of vaccination has reached 89 percent," he remarked.

"I expect that South Kalimantan and other regions can help in raising this coverage with the hopes that 100-percent coverage can be realized as soon as possible," he remarked.

In addition to administering the first and second dose of the vaccine, the third dose or the booster shot is also important amid a spike in the number of COVID-19 cases caused by the Omicron variant, Prabowo stated.

To this end, he urged people that had been administered the second dose of vaccination six months ago to promptly take the booster vaccine.

"I have instructed the regional police and resort police to serve the people to provide booster shots. Moreover, vulnerable groups, such as the elderly, should be prioritized," he noted.

The chief of police delivered this statement while surveying the vaccination activity conducted for three thousand children and elderly at the Sultan Suriansyah Building here on Thursday.
