"Telkomsel, as part of the Telkom Group, supports digitalization in one of the super-priority tourism destinations established by the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy, one of which is the Mandalika area, as the (location for the) international racing event MotoGP 2022," Telkomsel Director of Networks Nugroho remarked here on Saturday.
Earlier, some Telkomsel officials had visited Mandalika to secure 4G/LTE connectivity and other services to operate smoothly during the 2022 Mandalika MotoGP pre-season on February 11-13, 2022.
The state mobile operator has optimized the capacity and quality of 4G/LTE and also 5G broadband networks for exhibition purposes.
Telkomsel added some 68 4G/LTE base transceiver stations (BTS), thereby bringing the total to 382, to serve mobile network consumers in Mandalika. Network optimization was conducted in the form of capacity addition and quality consolidation across 4G/LTE base stations.
Furthermore, Telkomsel projected a surge in broadband traffic ahead of the MotoGP event on March 18, 2022, especially at the Pertamina Mandalika International Street Circuit, hotel locations, culinary tourism sites, tourism destinations, medical centers, and transportation facilities, such as airports and seaports.
Telkomsel also equipped six more BTS compact mobile units to strengthen the broadband network in the Mandalika Circuit area.
With regard to the exhibition, Telkomsel presents the Telkomsel 5G Experience Center in the Mandalika Circuit area for showcasing 5G utilization for tourism, automotive industry operations, racing games using virtual reality devices, as well as unmanned aerial vehicle virtual training and collaboration.
Moreover, Indonesia has adopted the 5G network within certain limits available at several locations since mid-2021. Telkomsel is the first mobile operator in Indonesia to serve a commercial 5G network.
