Bekasi, West Java (ANTARA) - The Bekasi district administration in West Java decided to temporarily suspend limited face-to-face learning following an increase in the number of daily cases of COVID-19.

Head of the Bekasi Education Office, Carwinda, remarked that the decision was stipulated in the Acting Head of Bekasi District's Acting Circular Number DK.07.03/SE-14/DISDIK issued on February 11, 2022. He delivered the statement in Cikarang on Saturday.

"The implementation of face-to-face learning in Bekasi District is temporarily suspended, and the teaching and learning process is entirely conducted online," he noted.

Carwinda explained that the distance learning policy came into effect on Monday, February 14, until a time that would be determined later.

"Meanwhile, we continue to evaluate based on the rate of spread of daily active cases of the coronavirus," he stated.

The Bekasi District Government also urged the head of the Religious Affairs Ministry's Bekasi Office and the head of the West Java Regional III Education Office to temporarily suspend limited face-to-face learning in educational institutions under their authority and employ online learning instead.

Carwinda stated that the suspension policy will be imposed on kindergartens, elementary schools, middle schools, and high schools in Bekasi.

Spokesperson of the Bekasi COVID-19 Task Force, Dr Alamsyah, noted that according to the West Java governor's directives, face-to-face learning policy in the province was adjusted to the conditions of each region.

According to the latest data from the official website of the Bekasi COVID-19 Task Force, pikokabsi.bekasikab.go.id, as of Friday, February 11, some 9,393 active cases of COVID-19 were recorded. This figure increased by 765 cases from the day before.

A total of 61,992 confirmed cases of COVID-19 were recorded in Bekasi District since the pandemic struck. Of the figure, 52,052 people recovered, while 547 succumbed to the disease.
