The ones understand women troubles, who understand the hurdles faced by female voters are certainly women themselves
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Women representation of at least 30 percent in the General Elections Commission (KPU) and the General Elections Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu) is crucial to handle hurdles encountered by female voters during the general election, an expert has stated.

"Those who understand women troubles and hurdles faced by female voters are certainly women themselves," Andalas University's Constitution Study Center Director Feri Amsari noted in a press conference streamed on YouTube on Sunday.

During the press conference entitled "Ensuring at least 30 Percent of Women's Electability in Organizing the General Election," he said that the percentage for women representation should not be 30 percent at minimum.

Rather, it should be at least 50 percent from each number of KPU and Bawaslu members.

"There are 26 thousand more female voters than male voters," he explained.

To this end, it is important to have a general election organizer who can understand and handle hurdles encountered by women. This aims to maximize the result of the general election.

Amsari remarked that the center pushes for a better general election by having the House of Representatives (DPR) to consider a more balanced gender composition for the election's organizer.

Politics lecturer from the Sam Ratulangi University Ferry Daud Liando noted that women, as general election organizers, should be able to produce policies with gender perspective.

He also stressed the importance of professionalism for general election organizers.

"What we need to fight for is women organizers that truly posses gender perspective once they assume their role," he remarked.

Working as an organizer with gender perspective does not mean siding with women in terms of electability. They should still uphold the value of independence and neutrality.
