In the spirit of the Women of Twenty Conference, let us promote equality, security, and welfare by eliminating discrimination against women
Manado (ANTARA) - North Sulawesi Governor Olly Dondokambey affirmed that implementation of the Women of Twenty (W20) Conference in Likupang, North Minahasa, offered a momentum to bolster joint commitment to free women worldwide from discrimination.

"In the spirit of the Women of Twenty Conference, let us promote equality, security, and welfare by eliminating discrimination against women," Dondokambey stated during his speech at the W20 event in Likupang, Tuesday.

The governor expressed optimism that all parties would provide support to empower women through Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) owned and managed by women as well as empowering women with disabilities and those in villages.

"Let us realize the equality of health services to improve the quality of life of women as well," he noted.

The governor affirmed that the world needed strong womenfolk by uplifting and building each other and who will love and be loved.

In addition, women, who live bravely, will have strong determination to grow as a great generation that will later become leaders in this nation, he added.

Dondokambey affirmed that in North Sulawesi Province, the regional government continues to strive for gender equality at the policy level.

Likewise, the regional government continues to make innovations in the area of women's empowerment, he noted.

He also expressed optimism that the W20 conference in Likupang would be able to bolster coordination and synergy to fight for gender equality and women's empowerment.

Dondokambey is keen that the W20 conference offers a momentum in remembering services and sacrifices of female heroes and feminist fighters, who have fought for women's emancipation in Indonesia and in the world.

The governor stressed that gender equality is a human right for everyone.

"Not only men but women also have the same right to make life choices with honor, courage, and freedom," he noted.

The W20 event in Likupang was attended by several officials, including Minister of Women's Empowerment and Child Protection Bintang Puspayoga, Australian Ambassador to Indonesia Penny Williams, UN Women Indonesia Country Representative and ASEAN Liaison Jamshed Kazi, President of the Indonesian Women's Congress Giwo Rubianto Wiyogo, Chairwoman of the W20 Indonesia Handriani Uli Silalahi, and Co-Chairwoman of W20 Indonesia Dian Siswarini.
