Nowadays, almost everything is done digitally
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The current tourism trend in Indonesia was shifting towards digital tourism, according to Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Uno.

"Nowadays, almost everything is done digitally," Uno stated during an online press conference on Wednesday.

Hence, Uno has invited industry players to join in the digitization process through multiple platforms as part of the transformation and promotion of tourism destinations.

For instance, industry players can start creating creative content to increase tourism promotion as well as standardization of accommodation services through Cleanliness, Health, Safety, and Environment Sustainability (CHSE) certificates.

However, those two steps should be supported by various parties to achieve optimal results, Uno affirmed.

The minister also drew attention to the vast potential of tourist villages that should be encouraged to drive the economy and create new business opportunities in the creative economy.

Uno noted that in 2021, visits to tourist villages had increased by 30 percent, a figure that was not small in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Moreover, the minister highlighted Indonesia's target to build sustainable tourism with destinations that offer interesting and unique experiences supported by distinctive local products.

Earlier, the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy had launched the 2022 Indonesia Tourism Village Award (ADWI) that is currently targeting three thousand tourist villages.

This award is expected to encourage tourist villages to become qualified holiday destinations with global competitiveness.

Assisted by several parties to promote tourist villages, Uno has ensured that the Indonesian economy will grow and bring more opportunities for people.

Seven categories of assessment are in place for tourist villages in ADWI, including tourist village that attracts visitors with its uniqueness and authenticity of natural and artificial aspects as well as arts and culture.

The second is the homestay category, followed by the souvenir category that covers culinary, craft, and fashion products.

The fourth category is digital and creative, followed by the fifth category of public toilets, while the sixth category is tourist village with the best CHSE category. The last one is the category for tourism village institutions.

"We also encourage tourist villages to hold events based on local wisdom," Uno concluded.
