Jakarta (ANTARA) - West Java recorded 4,368 daily cases of COVID-19—the highest nationwide—as of 12 p.m. local time on Monday, COVID-19 Task Force reported.

As per data received from the task force in Jakarta on Monday, Central Java was next with 4,154 cases, Jakarta with 2,693, East Java with 1,410, and Yogyakarta with 1,310 infections.

The confirmed cases took the national tally of daily COVID-19 cases to 21,380, bringing the total cases recorded since March 2020 to 5,770,105.

West Java Province also recorded the most recoveries at 20,905, followed by Central Java (4,192), Jakarta (4,056), East Java (3,645), and East Kalimantan (2,012).

Nationwide, the daily recovery rate increased by 48,800, bringing the total to 5,171,402.

Meanwhile, 258 people succumbed to the disease, with Central Java province contributing the most deaths at 63, followed by East Java (33), West Java (22), and Yogyakarta (16). Thus, the total number of deaths caused by COVID-19 climbed to 150,430.

The number of active cases, which include COVID-19 patients who are still undergoing treatment and self-isolation on Monday, stood at 448,273, a decline of 27,678 compared to the previous day.

In addition, 17,272 people were suspected of having contracted the infection.

These results were obtained on Monday after testing 374,639 specimens from 215,396 people in hundreds of laboratories all over Indonesia, the task force said.

The positivity rate for daily specimens was 10.69 percent and the daily positivity rate for people was 9.93 percent, it added.

Deputy Minister of Health Dante Saksono Harbuwono said that the trend of daily COVID-19 cases had begun to decline at the national level, as seen from the decline in the effective reproduction number of the virus on all large islands in Indonesia.

In addition, the number of inpatients at hospitals is also decreasing, he noted. Currently, 60 percent of patients who are being treated are either asymptomatic or showing mild symptoms, he said.
