Jakarta (ANTARA) - Head of the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) Lieutenant General Suharyanto ensured that the MotoGP event in Mandalika, Central Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara, would be safe from the likelihood of COVID-19 transmission.

The Pertamina Grand Prix of the Indonesia MotoGP event is scheduled to take place on March 18-20 at the Pertamina Mandalika International Street Circuit, Central Lombok District, West Nusa Tenggara Province.

"We ensure that the MotoGP event is completely safe from the likely transmission of COVID-19," Suharyanto noted at a media briefing accessed here on Tuesday.

Suharyanto affirmed that the BNPB and COVID-19 Handling Task Force will continue to assist the vaccination process before and after the MotoGP event.

During his visit to the Mandalika Public Hospital, Central Lombok, Suharyanto emphasized that COVID-19 vaccination serves as protection against the virus.

The lieutenant general lauded the seriousness of the local government and the support from various sectors that have successfully made West Nusa Tenggara the only province in Indonesia that implements level 1 of public activity restrictions (PPKM).

Suharyanto said it demonstrates that West Nusa Tenggara, especially Central Lombok, is ready to welcome the MotoGP event and gain trust nationally and internationally.

The BNPB head and his staff also reviewed the readiness of the Mandalika Public Hospital as one of the hospitals prepared for handling COVID-19 patients.

There are facilities for self-isolation prepared for COVID-19 patients, who are asymptomatic, and facilities for handling patients with moderate to severe symptoms and the Emergency Room.

In addition, he reviewed the implementation of vaccinations around the Mandalika Public Hospital, starting from registration to screening and the injection process.

Suharyanto and his staff also distributed masks at places where crowding could likely occur, such as the Sasak Sade Village and the Mandalika Market.

West Nusa Tenggara has achieved 96-percent coverage for first dose vaccinations and over 80 percent for the second dose. Currently, the local government and the local health office continue to rev up third dose vaccinations.
