By accelerating vaccinations before and after (the event), since we are still in the pandemic phase, it is hoped that a spike in (COVID-19) cases will not occur
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) stated that the COVID-19 vaccination coverage in West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) has surpassed 70 percent ahead of the Pertamina Grand Prix of Indonesia.

The MotoGP event is scheduled to take place on March 18-20 at the Pertamina Mandalika International Street Circuit, Central Lombok District, West Nusa Tenggara Province.

"By accelerating vaccinations before and after (the event), since we are still in the pandemic phase, it is hoped that a spike in (COVID-19) cases will not occur," head of the BNPB Lieutenant General Suharyanto noted in a written statement received here on Wednesday.

Suharyanto remarked that West Nusa Tenggara had achieved a vaccination coverage of 96 percent for the first dose and over 80 percent for the second dose.

The regional government and health office in the province also continue to rev up administration of the third dose or booster vaccinations.

Suharyanto affirmed that his agency was helping the West Nusa Tenggara government to accelerate vaccinations from Friday, March 12, to Friday, March 18, 2022.

In addition, his agency has distributed masks to the community to reduce the risk of COVID-19 transmission.

According to Suharyanto, West Nusa Tenggara, especially Central Lombok, is ready to welcome the MotoGP event and gain international trust for Indonesia.

The province's seriousness and readiness to welcome the event are also reflected by the current pandemic situation in West Nusa Tenggara, in which it is the only province in Indonesia that implements level 1 public activity restrictions (PPKM).

Preparations, in terms of facilities, such as hospitals to handle COVID-19 patients, infrastructure, and human resources, have also been confirmed to be available.

"We are ready to welcome MotoGP, and this is a form of national and international public trust placed on Indonesia," the BNPB head remarked.
