We cannot forget to resolve conflict in other parts of the world.Nusa Dua, Bali (ANTARA) - The Indonesian delegation, led by House of Representatives (DPR) Speaker Puan Maharani, once again brought up the issue of Palestine during the inaugural ceremony of the Inter-Parliamentary Union's (IPU's) 144th Assembly.
Maharani, who lead this year's IPU assembly, reminded thousands of foreign delegations from 115 countries that the world should not neglect Palestine since it has not achieved independence to this day.
"We cannot forget to resolve conflict in other parts of the world. This meeting can also push full independence for Palestine," the minister remarked at the Bali International Convention Center (BICC), here, on Sunday.
Indonesia has been quite active in urging the international committee to support Palestine's full independence in international forums, including during the IPU annual assembly.
Indonesia also brought up the issue of Palestine during last year's IPU assembly, though this effort did not yield any support from majority of the delegations.
In addition to Palestine, the DPR speaker noted that the 144th Assembly of the IPU encourages ceasefire and resolution over the conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
During the event, Maharani also echoed her expectations of the tension in Myanmar ending soon.
"Concerning the situation in Myanmar, we urge that Myanmar can return to democracy," she affirmed.
In her remark, Maharani noted that the 144th Assembly of the IPU can be the momentum for parliaments in various nations to spread the culture of peace.

This culture of peace underlines the importance of tolerance, dialogue, and rejection of violence.
To this end, the IPU assembly has an important task to become a dialogue bridge between parliaments, she stated.
"It is also beneficial to build a bridge for nations with differing viewpoints," she noted.
IPU, a cross-border cooperation between parliaments, is the second-largest democracy forum in the world after the United Nations (UN).
Indonesia is hosting the IPU Assembly for the first time.
